Executive welcome

On behalf of the Polish Physiological Society (PPS), it is our great pleasure to invite you to join us at the 24th Congress. Debates will be held at the Congress Centre of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

We hope that the beautiful environment, which is a natural feature of our city and the whole district, will contribute to very fruitful discussions and developing new research and personal contacts. The beauty of the Lublin Region reveals itself when you spend unforgettable moments in Kazimierz Dolny, Nałęczów and Kozłówka, places where great charm, artistic inspiration, healthy microclimate and Zamoyski's extraordinary palace excite the imagination. Allow me also to mention 62 very clean lakes dispersed in the north-eastern part of the Lublin district. The Lublin Province, already 530 years old, is a region of unpolluted nature, especially well seen in Roztocze, where you can feel the strength of the majestic firs, beeches and the magic of the wilderness. For centuries Lublin was a centre of mutual infiltration of different cultures, which can be seen in many old monuments located in our old town. Within the last few years Lublin has become a major town in the east of the European Union, with many new institutions and opportunities for development. The driving force for research and intellectual progress are the five local universities.

The aim of the PPS Congress will be to discuss the new concepts which have appeared recently in cellular and molecular physiology. Simultaneously, our great challenge will be to foreground the attractions and assets of physiology, which integrates the individual functions of cells and organs into a functional whole, in normal and abnormal states. For these purposes we must continually learn how to unify and transform a number of separate achievements on the subcellular, cellular and organ levels in a way which permits not only an innovative interpretation of any function but also gives basis for the interpretation of any disturbance and initiation of innovative therapy. By inviting the most distinguished speakers (experienced and inspiring keynote and guest speakers) we wish to give occasion for all participants, to obtain new insights into such important aspects of physiological interests as new achievements in:
